| Agitu tomb-monumnet is a medieval Armenian
architectural structure of the 7th c. It is 4km to
the east of Yerevan in the center of Agitu village. According
to the legend the tomb was built to commemorate two brothers from
royal family who died in the fight against the enemies. It is
a three-storied building. The hall with two arched niches and
plane cover built of smooth stones occupies the 1st
floor. Here are the graves of the victims. In the central part
of the altar-rail rises the triple arcade leaned on the octahedral
column and richly decorated with relief ornaments. The setting
of the tomb is rich in antique monuments, which witness about
the cult structure in heathen period. During the early Christianity
the building was ruined and the church was built in its place.
In the 10th-11th cc. a new church built
by Syuniats king Smbat replaced the former church. Later it was
destroyed by the fire. Tombstones and khachkars have been preserved.
