The Yerevan State
Institute of Foreign Languages after V. Brussov is the successor of the
Russian Two-year Teacher-training Institute founded on February 4, 1935.
The year of 1937 saw the first graduates of the Institute – the teachers
of Russian. In 1936 the Department of German was established and
a year later the English and French Departments were established. In 1948
the departments were transformed into faculties.
In 1942 the Institute was reorganized into the Yerevan State Russian Teacher Training Institute. In 1957 it became a department of Yerevan State University, however, preserving its structural and academic independence. In 1962 it regained its former status and was named after V. Brusov. In 1979 – 1991 the Institute had a refresher course for teachers of the Russian language and Literature in high schools and technical high schools of the republic. In 1985 the Institute was awarded the Order of Peoples’ Friendship. In 1993 it became the Yerevan State Institute of Foreign Languages named after V. Brusov. |
