Zangezour Copper-Molybdenum Combine CJSC
Zangezour Copper-molybdenum combine is the biggest mining enterprise in Armenia. It was established with involvement of the best specialist in mining sphere and was operated in May 1952. Kadjaran mine being a homeland of molybdenum is one of the biggest in the world. In 2002 the combine has processed more than 8 million t ore, which makes 95% of its production capacity.
Thanks to molybdenum production the combine has gained international fame.
40% of the production is processed within the republic, 60% is exported abroad. The produced 3 kinds of output that is 51 percentage molybdenum and 28 percentage copper concentrates and hardened molybdenum (three-oxide
molybdenum) correspond to the highest international standards and are of great demand in the international market.
That is why the output of the Zangezour combine is marketed by international trade-contests.
On the 50th anniversary the combine had high production and financial indicators.
The output of 2002 has made about 20 milliard drams; it is 30% more than in 2001 and 130% more than in 1998. Copper share part has increased in the total production amount. It is already 3 years the combine is producing three-oxide molybdenum, the amounts of which grow year by year. In 2002 the specific gravity of three-oxide molybdenum in output production has made 9%, in 2001 11,5% and in 2002 about 20%.
In 2002 the average number of employees was 2470, it is 20% more than in 1998 and 1.5% more than in 2001. The average salary in 2002 has reached about 78.000 drams, which has increased by 45% as compared with 1998 and by 6% as compared by 2001.
90% of equipment and materials necessary for mining industry is imported from Russia.
According to the agreement signed between RA and Russian Federation the combine
may purchase necessary materials and equipment by 20% rebated. Since 2000 the prime cost of import and export has considerably decreased, which is condition by starting of Ukraine-Georgia ferry. The annual freight turnover of the combine makes more than 120.000 t.
In the last 5 years great attention was paid to increasing of metals extraction extent from ore and also to improvement of the produced output. The combine has managed to increase the mining percent of copper and molybdenum correspondingly up to 81,6% and 69%. The copper content in copper concentrate has increased to a considerable extent (16-28%), which promotes to provide the natural course of production in the combine even in conditions of international prices fluctuation. It has been mentioned that three-oxide molybdenum is produced except copper and molybdenum, the price of which 3-4 times exceeds the price of molybdenum concentrate in international market. The final goal of the combine is to get metal copper and molybdenum. It will give on opportunity to market finished product instead of semi-finished one in the international market providing more profit.
An important achievement for the combine was the establishment of lime department.
The considerable part of about 12.000 spare parts is produced by the enterprise. In the last 2 years in behalf of Zangezour combine several enterprises have been opened in marz to provide the demand for spare parts and subsidiary staff in the combine. More than 300 people work in such enterprises providing the orders of the combine.
Charentsavan “Melting center” and “Hayavto”, Kapan “Car repair factory” and other enterprises are operating thanks to the combine orders. The processing of the combine output is done by “Clean iron factory” and “Armenian copper program” OJS companies.
Thanks to Zangezour Copper-molybdenum combine today 10.000 people are provided with job within Armenia.
The successes of the combine are due to the qualified and experienced staff, the number of which is growing year by year. Paying special attention to the training of the specialists the combine is collaborating with SEUA Kapan Campus providing the institute with its laboratories.
During the last years Zangezour Copper-molybdenum combine provides not only stable growth of own indicators but also promotes the improvement of other enterprises in this sphere. With its direct support the Agarak Copper-molybdenum combine has been re-operated in 2000.
