For centuries education has
been absolute priority of the Armenian people.
Communication with the world through language, presenting one’s
own and apprehending the values of other nations need professional
mediators.
That’s why more than a 60-year-old history of the Brussov Institute is inseparable from the history of Armenian these years. In different years the Institute set for itself different cardinal tasks, but all of them were aimed at reaching the supreme goal. The history of the Institute began in 1935, when the first teacher-training courses of the Russian language were founded. Later, as the international relations of Armenia developed and strengthened, the tasks of the Institute extended - it became an Institute of Russian and Foreign languages. |
| Most of the teachers in secondary
schools in Armenia are our graduates. Now that Armenia has gained independence,
not only the schools but also other walks of life in Armenia need
strengthening the widest international contacts. Responding to the challenges
of the time, our Institute, alongside with the linguistic knowledge, develops
new specialities connected with social sciences and cross-cultural
schemes and area studies. After all language is also culture. Culture is
also language. And not only; as L. Vitgenshtein says. “Borders of a language
- are borders of the world.” Implementing the tasks of linguistic education
endeavouring to become a centre of studying foreign languages, we have
chosen a goal which is fundamental to our mission - to prepare liberally
educated specialists, who will contribute to building bridges between Armenia
and the rest of the world. We accept the Order of Peoples’ Friendship awarded
to the Institute in 1985 as a symbol of loftiest mission we are to fulfil.
