Specially protected areas in the marz of Syunik
SEV LICH (Black Lake)
The reserve is situated at 2658 m above the sea level in the south part of Syunik volcanic mountain-shield and is surrounded with several mountain-peaks (3200-3500 m).

The reserve occupies the water surface (176 ha) of Sev lich and the lakeside area (64 ha) with 100m width. Around the reserve a protection zone with 1 km width is separated.
The adornment of the reserve is Sev lich with sweet and clean drinking waters accumulated in the result of snowmelts and mountain springs.

Sev lich is one of the high mountainous relic lakes in Caucasus, which was generated in the crater of dead volcano. In winter, starting from October till the beginning of summer the lake is frozen and is covered with thick ice-layer. According to S.Balayan’s studies of 1986-87 the flora in the reserve includes 102 varieties of plants belonging to 68 races and 27 families

The water world in the lake is too poor. The only inhabitants in the lake are warts and knotweeds.

The land area of the lake is covered with vegetation typical to subalpine meadows. The meadow symbiosis covered mostly with clover spreads along the south shore of the lake. Small prickly and branchy bushes are spread along the east stony shore.

The animal kingdom in the lake is not studied. It is supposed that it also is as poor as the vegetation in reserve. The trout of Sevan was replaced to Sev lich in 1967.
